Apple released iOS 14.4 and iPadOS 14.4 on Tuesday, the latest software update for iPhones and iPads and the fourth update since then the arrival of iOS 14 last summer. The update is relatively small and offers some improvements to your phone's camera and Bluetooth capabilities, as well as a number of other bug fixes.

The iOS updates also contain a fix for a security vulnerability that Apple says "may have been actively exploited". Apple didn't release many details about the security issue reported by an anonymous researcher, but the company said more information would be available soon. Apple also released security updates for WatchOS 7.3 and TVOS 14.4 on Tuesday.

Everything Apple

CNET's Apple Report newsletter provides news, reviews, and advice about iPhones, iPads, Macs, and software.

On the front of the camera, iOS 14.4 allows your iPhone to recognize smaller QR codes than before, and new warnings for when Apple can't detect the camera on an iPhone 12, as Apple's first-party camera probably only comes into play if you had the phone changed or repaired. One of the bug fixes also promises to eliminate image artifacts in HDR photos captured with the iPhone 12 Pro.

With Bluetooth, you can now specify which type of audio device you are connecting to, whether it is a loudspeaker, a car radio, headphones or even a hearing aid. The goal is to ensure that the audio levels automatically match the device you are connecting to your phone.

The update arrives as Apple is preparing for the start of Black History Month Highlighting black developers and developers on the App Store in February, as well as curated content on Apple TV, Apple Music, Apple Podcasts, and Apple Books. Apple announced earlier on Tuesday new limited Black Unity Collection sports bands for the Apple Watch Series 6.

To download and install the update, open your iPhone settings and tap General, then Software Update.
