Apple recently updated its support document on the MagSafe Charger.
the updated documentconfirms that the iPhone 12 Mini will charge at a speed of 12 watts slower using the MagSafe charger. For comparison, other iPhones in the latest lineup will charge at a faster speed of 15 watts, MacRumors reports on development.
The company has also published guidelines for users to follow when using its magnetic charging washer. While it's unclear why the company opted for slower wireless charging on the iPhone 12 Mini, it doesn't matter, given that it packs a smaller battery.
MagSafe on the iPhone 12 range
As you know, MagSafe is Apple's rebirth of the iconic magnetic charge that came with early MacBooks. This time around, the company made it a wireless charger that can continue to charge while using your iPhone. Magnets help the charger stay in place and make room for magnetic cases and wallets.
The support document states that the wireless charging speed will depend on the AC adapter and system conditions. It indicates that you need to turn on the power before you place the iPhone on the MagSafe charger. This would allow the system to decide on the optimal power supply for the device.
For optimal charging speeds, Apple recommends purchasing a USB-C power adapter of 9V / 2.2A or 9V / 2.56A or greater. The document also states that if you plugged the EarPods into any iPhone 12 model, the wireless charging speed will drop to 7.5 watts.
