The auto industry has written that off Apple car years ago after Project collapse in 2016, but as soon as 2021 arrived, a floodgate of new rumors opened. Now it seems likely that a physical Apple Car is back on the table, and Hyundai could help bring it to life.

Following reports from last week, IT Korea reported on Reuters on Sunday that Hyundai plans to make its Apple partnership official in March. According to the newspaper, a prototype of the Apple Car could be ready in 2022 before production begins in 2024 previous reports before Hyundai got into the mix.

The Korean automaker didn't immediately return a request for comment, and neither did Apple. Hyundai started Reports of its involvement are declining last week so we have to pick up this latest news with a big old salt shaker.

If the deal goes through, the report originally said Hyundai would build Apple's machine at its Kia plant in West Point, Georgia, but the newspaper pulled that detail back in a revision. The report also included the possibility that Hyundai and Apple could invest in a new joint facility in the US to build the car. The reported target for production in 2024 is 100,000 Apple Cars with the potential to build 400,000 vehicles annually in the years to come.

If Hyundai were to build the Apple Car at its Georgia plant, it would indicate that Apple's electric vehicle is running on the Korean automaker's E-GMP platform. A new facility could open up more flexibility for what Apple wants to achieve with its secret car project.
