Another Hilarious Woman in Comedy! Meet Tara Brown!

You all know I love a comedian. I especially love a woman comedian. I had the fantastic opportunity to Zoom interview Tara Brown of Tara Brown Comedy. She is another funny lady known for ‘Clean Comedy’. You can even take your kids to her shows! She originally hails from Brooklyn, NY but currently lives and laughs in Charlotte, NC. (Just down the road a bit from Raleigh!)

Fun Facts about Tara: She has been named one of the “The Standup Comedians You Need to Know in Charlotte”. The Queen City Nerve named her as “Best Comedian” for 2019, and Tara is the most recent winner of the “Jeanne Robertson’s Comedy with Class Humor Competition!” HOW AWESOME!

Tara loves making people laugh and feel good, even if it’s just for an hour or so. She says Life Happens but she is always lookin for the funny in everything. She does that really well Y’all. When we were saying our hellos on Zoom the other day, she told me she had just finished a hike up a mountain. I was like, why? lol She made it to tell the tale for sure. She had me rolling the whole time we talked.

I also asked her who she looked up to in comedy. I was surprised at her answers. She said Tina Fey and Amy Poehler and of course Jeanne Robertson. That part didn’t surprise me because we all LOVE them. But then she said Dave Chappelle! I mean he’s one of my favs but for a clean comedian? Then she explained that she really admires his story telling ability. I have to agree. He reels you in and you are mesmerized all the way up to the punchline. That’s not easy for even the best comedians. Tara can do that with the greatest of ease.

I always ask funny people what would lead someone to get into standup and Tara’s story didn’t disappoint. She has a great full-time job but was looking for something on the hobby side. Saw an ad for a comedy class and decided she’d do that. Not only did it start her career but she won first place in the class competition! (Teachers Pet, obviously).

Tara tours the nation and has the running gig of hosting and producing the Clean Comedy Brunch series at The Comedy Zone in Charlotte. If you are in the area, you really need to go! (when Covid let’s up)

I asked her what she would tell women just getting into comedy: “Be supportive, surround yourself with those who love and support you. Just have fun and tell your amazing stories in your perspective. And keep people around you that are honest.” Great advice Tara!

One thing you may not know about Tara, she’s an extrovert but with introvertive tendencies. She needs her quiet time to refresh. It’s the little breaks that are valuable to her. I feel ya girl. Me too.

So be on the lookout for Tara coming to a comedy club near you as soon as Covid let’s us out of the basement. When she comes to Raleigh, we are going to have a huge party for her! You can find Tara Brown Comedy on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and YouTube!

Here’s a little bit of her funny:

Peace Love and Margaritas!
