Another Example Of The Ignorance Of The American Public
One of the top issues in the past election was jobs. It seems that many Rust Belt workers bought into Donald Trump's claim that he would create a massive number of new jobs. We can debate whether Trump's "solution" to creating jobs will work (I don't believe it will), but as the chart above shows, many people were voting out of ignorance.
The official unemployment rate in the United States is 4.4% -- well below 5%. And that rate has been below 5% for seven straight months now. But only 28% of the public knows that. A whopping 72% does not know -- with 52% saying it is above 5%, and another 20% admitting that don't know whether the unemployment rate is above or below 5%.
I find it rather shocking that people claim this is an important issue, but don't know the facts surrounding that issue.
The chart above was made from a new Economist / YouGov Poll -- done between May 6th and 9th of a random national sample of 1,500 adults (including 1,287 registered voters), with a margin of error of 3.1 points.
