Back in August, we announced that a film Anna Paquin (Sookie Stackhouse) completed in 2005 would finally be reaching audiences. Margaret directed by Kenneth Longergan was released in a very limited engagement at the end of September grossing just under $50,000. And now it has just made a list of best films of 2011. Here is what Time Out Chicago’s Ben Keingsberg had to say about it:
“Released six years after it was filmed, Kenneth Lonergan’s truncated sophomore feature dares to go long and risks imperfection. But it scarcely has a scene that isn’t volatile, rich and ambiguous. Chronicling the rocky emotional state of a teen (Anna Paquin) who inadvertently causes a bus accident, the movie maturely allows her guilt to coexist with a series of dovetailing dramas. This definitive post-9/11 movie may yet find its audience.”
It was ranked at #1 on Keingsberg’s list.
Will you see Margaret if it becomes more widely available in theaters or on DVD? Tell me in the comments below!
