rp_anna_camp.jpgTrue Blood’s Sarah Newlin, Anna Camp is returning to the stage, starring as a struggling writer in a new play by Nick Jones at Lincoln Center. Anna will lead the cast of the thriller “Verite” at the Claire Tow Theater starting Jan. 31.

It’s really something I haven’t read before. So I was determined to go get it,” Camp said. “It’s ahead of the audience. I was never ahead of it while reading it.”

“I need it,” Camp said Monday from Los Angeles. “It’s going to be in the dead of winter, in New York, but that’s fine. I don’t care. I feel like my soul needs it. I’m going to be bundled up going to Lincoln Center every day, and that sounds like heaven to me.”

Jones’ 90-minute play centers on a writer who is offered an unusual deal for her memoir: She has to make her life exciting enough to deserve it being published. Jones’ other plays include “Trevor” and “The Coward,” and he’s a writer and co-producer of “Orange is the New Black.”

Camp said she fell in love with the script and her character. “This woman has such an amazing arc,” she said. “She starts out this shy, self-conscious and afraid-to-be-vulnerable woman. I don’t want to give too much away, but she truly becomes a very determined, slightly psychotic person.”

The play also stars Oliver Hollmann, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Robert Sella, Jeanine Serralles, Danny Wolohan and Damian Young. Moritz von Stuelpnagel will direct.

Camp — and her dog, a stoutish puggle — will be returning to New York after a few years in California. “I’ve been busy, which has been great. But that’s where I always saw myself. It’s where I feel the most creative and the most inspired. So I am itching to get back.”
