Sarah Newlin (Anna Camp) hit a new level of insanity in Sunday night’s episode, “Dead Meat” with the scene that ended in the death of Ms. Suzuki. Entertainment Weekly did a piece on it wherein Anna and showrunner Brian Buckner talked Sarah Newlin’s fight. It famously sent Camp to the hospital in full hair, make up and wardrobe after hitting her head. She told EW’s Jess Cagle in their Sirius XM interview that it was “the craziest scene I’ve ever shot.”
Showrunner Brian Buckner told Entertainment Weekly that Sarah seemed like a great villain who would be able to further Governor Burrell’s (Arliss Howard) cause better than he could. But not everything goes according to plan like in the movies which is the point of the fight.
“We realized early on that Sarah was going to carry the torch for Gov. Burrell better than he could carry it himself. She just became this great villain, and the idea of it was this very short-lived version of a descent into madness. She gets pushed like Walter White. The whole concept behind that fight is, you watch it in the movies and it seems easy to break someone’s neck, and killing people is not that easy. Suzuki would not die.” Buckner’s favorite moment? When Suzuki knees Sarah in the groin. “I had to go to set to ask women whether or not that would actually hurt. I was assured that it would.”
