Owen and his family must use a magical box of Animal Crackers to stop his evil uncle Horatio P. Huntington from taking over the run-down circus that means so much to them.

Animal Crackers is quite a strange film in terms of that we almost never got to actually see it, considering the release date is listed as 2017 yet it has only recently been actually released. Appearing on Netflix from 24th July. I will openly admit that the actors involved in the voice work and in particular Sir Ian McKellen is what made me watch the film. Although with the big names involved it is quite astonishing that it struggled to get a release.
The story is based around Owen who is attempting to live a "normal" life by turning his back on the circus he had always loved. Working for his father in law as a dog biscuit taster of all strange jobs, who never felt he was good enough for his daughter Zoe who actually wants nothing more than to be involved in the circus. While they both raise daughter Mackenzie, in their own unique manner.
I guess the main issue is that the storyline is pretty straight forward and the changing into animals from the crackers isn't anything outstanding. It also becomes very obvious on what it was used for by Bob and how it made the circus special. With Horatio attempting to get his hands on the crackers and not really bothered about his nephew in all of this. Leaving the film very one dimensional even when the animation is actually more 3D like. Which is a plus the animation is very clear and good to watch.
I do however think that this will be a bigger hit with young children who are probably the main intended audience anyway. We just don't really get too many jokes placed in for the adults. So I would pretty much say its average and watchable.
The voice work paired actual real life married couple Emily Blunt and John Krasinski being married within the film. Hearing Ian McKellen as a bad guy was pretty good as well. Sylvester Stallone brought a few comedic moments and Danny DeVito really does have one of the most recognisable voices in Hollywood!
