And Then We Saw… It

By Told By Design @toldbydesign

When Tacy (Lucille Ball) takes Nicky (Desi Arnaz) to the Annual Trailer Show she expects a lot from a mobile home called “The Bungalette”. The advertisement claimed that it was “The luxury home for practical people”, but this was far from true, and the real one was much smaller and impractical than they imagined.

And then they see it: “As long as we’re here let’s just look inside [...] just for fun”.
Although much more expensive, Tacy convinces Nicky to buy this other house trailer: the 1953 Redman’s New Moon. [In 1954, the "I love Lucy" model appeared due to the movie success]. Although more spacious and better equipped, it still have some design problems. Especially regarding the shower [a bathtub in the "real" model"].

Tacy (Lucille Ball) – If we had a trailer, no matter where we went, I could make a home for you. [...] We could have this beautiful home. Only $1800, and that’s complete, mind you. Everything is included. All this furniture: chairs, sofa, bed, stove, refrigerator, shower bath, everything. Absolutely everything, right down to coat hangers in the closet. You don’t have to buy a thing. Did you ever see anything as beautiful?
Nicky (Desi Arnaz) – Well, it’s kind of roomy and that… Wonderful closet space.
T – Where? … That’s the living room.
N – Oh. Well, it’s convenient. Everything is right there within easy–
[...]
T - Oh, I’m so disappointed I could cry. It looked enormous in the ads. It was such a wonderful idea.
N - Well, don’t worry, sweetheart. We’ll have a home. We’ll just have to wait a while, that’s all.
N - And then we saw it.
[...]
T - Isn’t it lovely? So new and fresh and pretty. Oh, look, glass in the oven so you don’t have to open it to look in. Come on, honey, let’s look back here. Come on. Do you see this wonderful shower, honey?
