You know how I said in my previous post that it’s possible to fall in love with a city, or on the contrary, feel nothing? Well, Amsterdam happened to be my latest infatuation, and even though I didn’t spend much time exploring due to a busy work schedule, Amsterdam grabbed me by my heart from the moment I saw its skinny houses and abundant canals.

With all my European travel baggage, I’m a little embarrassed to say that I have never set foot in Holland. And going there for a trade show, I knew that was not the right way to meet a city I was so eager to explore. But all my anticipation paid off the minute I found myself standing next to a canal, watching boats full of smiling people slowly swing by. I knew I found “my” city.

Bearing a solid resemblance to many European towns with plenty of Medieval footprints, Amsterdam still comes off as very unique and full of its own personality. You will surely see plenty of antique buildings, cobblestoned streets, tourist-filled squares and classic European architecture, but there’s so much more character to it.

Red Light district, sex shows, coffee shops – you name it – Amsterdam has all kinds of entertainment to please any extravagant desires you might have.

One of my favorite things to do was to sip a glass of red wine at a street-side cafe at Dam Square or Rembrandtplein, walk through the labyrinth of narrowest streets filled with the sweet aroma of marijuana spreading from the numerous coffee shops, and stroll along the canals late at night. For some reason, it made me happy…

I can’t provide any legit recommendations as to what to see and where to go, but I can tell you that if you’re in the mood for some good Italian food, you should check out Casa di David, or if you’d like to dance your night off, Escape would be a great option. I’ve also heard that Supperclub is a must-have experience in Amsterdam. Posing as a restaurant/lounge/nightclub, that place will fulfill your wildest imagination.

I wish I would be more helpful with sharing tips on what do in Amsterdam other than bragging about how incredibly amazing I found this city, but perhaps it would be an extra incentive for you to pick Amsterdam next time you’re planning your vacation.

P.S. Hit me with some tips if you’re as crazy about this place as I am, so next time I will know for sure what to do!
