What is Amoxicillin?

Amoxicillin is an antibiotic medicine used to treat bacterial infections including skin infections, strep throat, middle ear infection, pneumonia, and urinary tract infections (UTIs). It is taken by mouth.

Amoxicillin was first discovered in 1958 and came into the medical use in 1972. It is available as a generic medicine. It comes under the brand names - Amoxil, Trimox and Moxatag.

How to Use?

Use Amoxicillin exactly as directed by your doctor. Follow all the instructions described on your prescription label. Do not take it in larger or smaller amounts or for longer than recommended.

You can take Amoxicillin with or without meal.

Precautions

Before taking Amoxicillin, tell your doctor or health care provider if you are allergic to it or if you have a history of any other allergies.

Before using this medicine, tell your doctor about your medical history; especially of (4) (3) (6) -

Kidney disease
Food or drug allergies
A certain type of viral infection (infectious mononucleosis)

It is not clear whether Amoxicillin will harm an unborn baby. Ask your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to get pregnant. (1)

It is not known if this medicine passes into the breast milk. Ask your doctor if you're breast-feeding.

What Happens If Missed a Dose?

Skip the missed dose and take the next dose at the regular time. Do not take two doses at the same time.
