Amirah Vann Playing Ernestine In Underground Has Made Her A Stronger Woman

Actress Amirah Vann, who plays Ernestine in the WGN hit show Underground, says the role has made her a stronger woman.  Here is why……..  “Her owning herself and who she is, has definitely made me a stronger woman,” the actress said.

Amirah Vann
“I’ve always looked at Mrs. Ernestine as a compliment to me. Her owning herself and who she is, has definitely made me a stronger woman. Spending time with her has been a gift. Like now I’ll say to myself, ‘you have an opinion, so stand in it and own it. Mrs. Ernestine does that. You can’t walk away from this kind of roll and cower.”

Vann recently revealed that she almost turned down the role (We’re glad she didn’t)

“When I first got the audition, I was like, ‘Hmm, I don’t know.’ And that’s literally what people say about the show when they first realize it’s about the Underground Railroad,” Vann says. “And I’m with you. I get it. But as soon as I read the script I knew (creators) Misha Green and Joe Pokaski had written something different. We’re not just wading in the water. This is about celebrating our heroes who revolted against slavery.”

Amen!

Season 2 premieres Wednesday, March 8 at 10 PM on WGN.
