American Woodcocks at Scotia Barrens

By Timschreckengost @timshrek

Last evening a group of us went out to the range at Scotia Barrens (SGL 176) to view the American Woodcocks. These birds typically display by calling on the ground then flying in a circular pattern while making a twittering sound high in the sky. When they come back down to the ground they usually land near where they have taken off. Knowing this we ran and laid down next to where the bird took off from.   Here are some of my best pictures.
