You could say I'm quite the afternoon tea fan, so when I was invited along to Hilton Garden Inn to try out their afternoon tea with a distinctly American twist, I was certainly intrigued.Located conveniently beside the Stadium of Light and the latest hotel to open in Sunderland, is Hilton Garden Inn. Inside it's wonderfully modern boasting 141 rooms, a spacious restaurant, Karbon Grill and a separate bar area, Pavilion Lounge.
Afternoon Tea is becoming much more of a thing than simply scones and tea, we now want to be dazzled by mini cheesecakes, modern twists on the ham sandwiches and even sometimes, be offered a glass of fizz. If this sounds like you, then you'll want to try out the American Sharing Tower.
Offering mini burgers, spicy chicken wings (with added hot sauce) mini calzones and cheese and pickle bites for the savoury selection. Don't forget to leave space for dessert with mini key lime pie, Mississippi mud pie and pecan pie, you can absolutely have one of each! You're welcome to have the usual tea/coffee or try out the banana and strawberry milkshake. My only grumble was I found the milkshake to taste more like a breakfast smoothie than the thick american style shake I'd hoped for.
Served daily 12-5pm at £14.50pp (so £2 more than the classic afternoon tea they also offer) I think the American Sharing Tower is a great alternative and something that might be more likely to interest the guys!
