America Idol will release a set of contestant-based non-fungible tokens (NFTs) for collectors and fans to commemorate the program’s 20th season and two decades as America’s top television talent show. ThetaDrop, Theta Network’s environmentally conscious and cost-effective NFT marketplace, will offer these one-of-a-kind gems.
Fans who buy a $99 “American Idol NFT Card Pack” will get a random National Football League (NFL) card from one of the Top 14 participants. As players are removed from the game, collectors who own the required number of competitor cards will be eligible to win unique rewards over the next five weeks. Collectors who own the winner’s NFT will get their own unique Winner’s “Ticket to Hollywood” NFT, which may be exchanged for an actual ticket to Hollywood sent to their house for the season’s finale.
Throughout the first week of rewards, which begins Monday, April 25th, collectors who own an NFT of just one of the remaining finalists will get an American Idol 20th Anniversary Animated Logo NFT. During week two, collectors who have NFTs for two of the remaining candidates will get 300 $TDROP in their ThetaDrop account.
Collectors who have four competitors NFTs of candidates left in the tournament will get VIP Bronze privileges for their ThetaDrop account during the third week of prizes.
American Idol is the first high-profile partner to join Theta Network, the leading blockchain for media and entertainment. Theta previously collaborated on NFTs with American Idol judge and pop star Katy Perry, soulstress Dionne Warwick, the Samsung Galaxy S22 flagship launch, the World Poker Tour, and America’s longest-running television game show, ‘The Price is Right.’
“When you’re collaborating with internationally-renowned entertainment brands, it doesn’t get much bigger than American Idol,” says Mitch Liu, CEO and Co-founder of Theta Labs. “With our Theta-powered real time predictive NFTs, fans will be able to go beyond voting for the contestants and become a judge themselves – celebrating with their favorites and collecting rewards as they move through each qualifying round to the finals.”
“At American Idol, we are constantly challenging ourselves to be on the forefront of innovation,” says Megan Michaels Wolflick, the series’ Showrunner, and Executive Producer. “With interactive NFT trading cards celebrating our 20th season, fans will be able to immerse themselves even more into the Idol experience, as they collect their favorite contestants’ cards, and follow their progress throughout the competition.”
