A decorative swirled finish (AKA “engine turning”) adorns the cowling of this American Eagle A-1 on display at the Yanks Air Museum. First flown in 1926, the A-1 was a training aircraft produced by the American Eagle Aircraft Corporation in Kansas City, KS. Small modifications made to the design, including ailerons on the lower wings, led to the A-101 designation. One of the designers of the A-1 was Waverly Stearman, younger brother of the famous Lloyd Stearman. At the time of the Depression, American Eagle was the world’s third-largest aircraft production company, only to close after the stock market crash. Nikon D500 w/18-200mm.
