The owners of Amazon's Ring Smart Doorbells have reported "ghost" visitors, with the doorbell ringing but no one was at their door. Amazon attributed the problem to "infrastructure delays", causing the real bell presses to arrive later.
It said its "processing infrastructure was lagging," which caused delays in the people who received the notifications.
The problem was resolved, he said, apologizing for any inconvenience.
Amazon did not say how many people were affected or what caused the delay, but users across the UK, Europe and the US reported the random rings throughout the day on September 30th.
Some took to Twitter to describe how they were getting a series of rings, with others saying their devices shut down every 10 minutes.
Others said the phantom rings were unnerving, with children scared when the doorbell rang and no one was there.

In March, the BBC revealed that Amazon tracks every movement detected by its Ring doorbell, something privacy experts say gives its huge insights into customer lives.
Ring, which makes home cameras and doorbells, has had security concerns in the past.
In December 2019, a video shared on social media showed a hacker talking to a girl in his bedroom via the family's Ring camera.
The hacker greeted the girl saying, "It's Santa Claus. He's your best friend."
Earlier this week, Amazon revealed a flying camera that starts up if sensors detect a potential break-in.
