Amazing Ski Destinations Around the Globe

By Zubitravel @zubitravel
There’s no better way to celebrate the winter months than to go on a ski or snowboard holiday. The summer makes us want to visit warmer climes for sunshine and sand, but the winter inspires many of us to head to mountains where there is a generous sprinkling of snow. In terms of the experience and excitement, skiing on a real peak far surpasses the artificial slopes that are found in England. It’s not only the quality of the white stuff - it’s also about the atmosphere and scenery; for that you simply cannot beat a mountain resort.
So if you are thinking about packing your winter woolies and heading to a good resort this winter, where should you go? Here are some amazing ski destinations around the globe that you should consider:
Swiss Alps
It’s easy to reach Switzerland as there are numerous airlines that fly into Zurich airport; even a budget one! It’s also possible to fly to Milan and make the drive to one of the resorts. One such Switzerland ski resort that is growing in popularity can be found near the small town ofAndermatt, around 90 minutes from the airport in Zurich. What makes this place so ideal is the combination of guesthouses, hotels, restaurants, and of course the ski runs. Nätschen is perfect for those just starting out, as well as intermediates, whereas Gemsstock (2,963m) is sure to appeal to the more seasoned pros. Go between December and February for the best snow coverage.

Canadian Rockies
The Rocky Mountains are another overseas destination that you might want to consider; the flight time will of course be longer but you would surely have a wonderful experience. One place to go to is Sunshine Village which is only a 15 minute drive from gorgeous Banff in Canada. From the car park you’d get on a high speed gondola which transports you to the upper village. Here there are ten chairlifts which provide access to 107 trails in the valley. These trails take place over three mountains: Goat’s Eye, Lookout and Mount Standish. Go between December and April to make the most of the powder.

French Pyrenees
It’s also possible to ski in the French Pyrenees which are commonly looked over in the place of more popular resort areas. Yet the Pyrenees offer something a little bit different for tourists who don’t want to be surrounded by high levels of tourism and expensive costs. They’re usually more affordable, and the hospitality of the locals is renowned; you’d be eating hearty stews and drinking bottles of house French wine poured from a carafe. The main hurdle is the accessibility; some transfers might not be able to make it through the snow to take you to your resort! If you’re up for an adventure, it’s likely that you could persuade a friendly local to bring you the rest of the way... just be prepared for a more natural experience and not the ease of the Alps.
