Draw digitally has always been an unattainable ability to me, but when I was looking for ways to do it pass the time during the Coronavirus CurfewI gave Apple Create app a chance. Even if I like to use it physical mediaIt was intimidating to paint or use any medium other than pencil and paper. The thought of getting out all the supplies and a Workplaceand then not being able to create what I was hoping for and then having to put it all away was daunting. But I try digital art on mine iPad Let me experiment with different artistic figures and shapes without creating any real mess.
I still consider myself a beginner with digital media, but it's been a fun journey so far. I use a third generation iPad Air and a first generation Apple stick. Regardless of your iOS device, iPad art is ultimately about being creative and expressing yourself. Apple's Procreate iPad drawing app is $ 10 to download. It's well worth the money thanks to its numerous art tools and creative functions. The digital illustration app is available whether you are a design professional, a seasoned digital artist, or a beginner in the world of digital illustration. I've been using Procreate for a few months now and there are still features I can figure out to improve my graphics (check out the best Procreate tips I've found so far).
With Procreate, you can customize the gesture controls so that the app is ultimately tailored to you. Regardless of what artist level you're at, Procreate's features like Quickshape, Blend Mode, Layers, Alpha Locks, and Clipping Masks can add a new level of professionalism to your art.
There's a lot going on in this app so I wouldn't download it if all you're looking for is somewhere to doodle. A brief overview in the app can be found in the official Procreate manual.

The Autodesk Sketchbook app is free, but surprisingly packed with art tools that aren't blocked by paywalls. You can use the free version for seven days. You will then be asked to create an Autodesk ID, which is also free. It's a little less intimidating than Procreate when you start your digital art journey. Downloading the sketching app will give you a quick introduction to all of the basic tools.
Autodesk has an extensive, well-organized brush library, and with its customizable brushes, settings such as brush size, opacity, and pressure can be easily adjusted. Even with a typical learning curve for a new drawing app, the toolbar is pretty easy to figure out. I also liked that the app didn't lose the feeling of "drawing" even when zooming in extensively by letting you see the pixels in your stroke.
One of my favorite parts of Sketchbook is the focus on making it easy to transition from paper to screen. You might have made cool sketches in a notebook, and with Autodesk, you don't have to redraw the sketch in the app. Your camera doubles as a scanner so you can import your art. The image is imported with a transparent background so you can start working in the app straight away.

Art Set 4 is one of the simpler, more realistic drawing apps out there. It's free to download, but most of the tools are unlocked through the Premium Pro features, which are $ 10. This app is best if you are new to digital illustration. It feels like you have physical tools and paper in front of you. I love the user interface. If you're overwhelmed by the idea of using a more complex app like Procreate or Autodesk, the Art Set 4 drawing tool is a great choice to get started. It's also fun if all you want to do is doodle.
What I really like about Art Set 4 is the ease with which even the free tools work together in one piece. It's also nice that you can switch between multi-colored paper styles like canvas and the rough surface of heavy, cold-pressed sheets for watercolor. You can choose burlap styles, cardboard, and lattice without messing up a drawing you've already made.
As you explore the app, it will lock all items that require Premium Pro. When you tap on a locked item, Art Set will ask if you want to update everything and unlock it. Premium gives you full access to over 150 brushes, 3D paint, liquid watercolor, the ability to overlay and use masks, activate a "wet canvas", guides such as symmetry, shapes, fill and dozens of other ways to customize your workspace .

Not everything you create in an art app has to be a daunting undertaking that ends in a masterpiece. Having fun is the most important part. Simple coloring can make for a creative and relaxing afternoon. Lake is a free ASMR art app with coloring books in various styles by artists around the world.
The app's audio element is especially cool. For example, when you paint digitally with the brush, you hear soft brush noises. If you choose to use the spray painting tool, you'll hear a ball bearing rattle like when you shake a can of paint. You can switch off the ASMR in the settings.
Another thing I liked was the ability to stay in the lines and add more color for shading and effects. You have more room to be creative instead of just typing and filling (although you can if you want). The artist also puts together an optional palette for each coloring page that you can use if you are unsure about colors.
You can stay on the app's dashboard and choose from free daily images or explore All Art in the toolbar. Lake sorts the coloring pages into artist collections, kids, abstract, animal, cities, feminists, portraits, mandalas for relaxation and satisfaction of symmetrical images.
At Lake's free tier, you get nine free coloring pages per day. When you subscribe to Premium - $ 10 a month or $ 20 a year - you get access to all of the coloring pages, more color variations on the wheel, and the option to use a blank canvas.

ShadowDraw is a helpful free app if you are struggling with proportions or drawing certain things like faces, bodies or animals.
The Drawing Desk app is a good simple app for those in the casual doodling app market. There's a free version with ads (which can be a bit annoying if you're in the middle of a piece), or you can upgrade to remove the ads for $ 5.
