All Schools Closed on November 13, 14 for Election

All schools in the country will be closed two days on November 13 and 14 for the forthcoming General Election scheduled to be held on November 14.

Education Ministry Secretary Thilaka Jayasundara announced that all schools will be closed on November 13 and 14 on the request made by the Election Commission Chairman in a letter dated November 4, 2024 due to the General Election to be held on 14 (Thursday). These schools will resume on Monday November 18.

Meanwhile, all the Zonal Directors of education and principals have been informed to hand over the schools used as polling stations to the respective Grama Niladhari after school hours on November 12 by the Education Ministry Secretary. They will be informed to provide the officials deployed to the election duties with necessary physical resources such as tables, desks, chairs, hygienic facilities and hall facilities needed for the smooth function of polling station activities.

The Education Ministry has informed that schools used as counting centers will only remain closed during the time period specified in the relevant document.
