Residents of the South Loop now have a brand new place to play with the family. In line with recent large-scale developments around McCormick Place, according to Curbed Chicago, a playground and dog park that were included in the plan have recently been completed.
Locals passing by can stop to relax on seating surrounding the 21,000 square-foot playground, get active with your youngsters on playground rides and equipment, eat lunch on one of the picnic tables, cool down by a fountain, or let your pooch frolic around their very own turfed section. There’s also a bike rack for any bicyclists looking to make a pit stop. Renderings show the circular designs incorporated within the area, as well as plenty of greenery surrounding the playground.
The $2 million recreational area, designed by Site Design Group and Goettsch Partners, is largely made from recycled materials. Located at 21st Street and Prairie Avenue, the rapidly transitioning area around the playground includes new townhouses as well as the construction of the new DePaul Arena. Additionally, with the construction of a new Marriott Marquis near McCormick Place, all of these recent developments are expected to boost tourism and attract new residents to this part of the South Loop.
