All About Prosper Rochester, Inc

I’m not one for shameless plugging but this plug is one that is very close to my heart. Prosper Rochester is one of Rochester’s many gems hidden in plain site. Birthed from the now defunct Seedfolk Store, Prosper Rochester is a non-for-profit space that is ready to embrace Rochester’s entrepreneurs of color and beyond. Sitting on the outskirts of downtown in the heart of the Susan B. Anthony district, Prosper is simply put; a community space. Part commercial kitchen, part internet cafe, part conference room Prosper Rochester has a mission to connect, support, uplift, and upbuild women and minority owned small business owners.

I’ve had the pleasure of partnering with Prosper its ever gracious director Eleanor Coleman and I must say that it is truly one of the best partnerships that I’ve made thus far in this journey. Prosper’s mission is to be an economical alternative for business owners looking for kitchen or meeting space to cook, dream, and strategize without all of the overhead and headache that normally comes with leasing commercial space in this city. Fully functional and fully permitted by the City of Rochester and Monroe County Dept of Health, Prosper takes the the biggest headache away from first time business owners: finding the perfect location to set up shop. Space can be rented per hour, as needed, or monthly and the owner can focus on promoting and selling food and other products to our community.

I love the quaint feel of the cafe and hope to continue to raise the visibility of this gem so more business owners and the community can utilize this space. Prosper is fully self sustaining with all funds going into the upkeep and operating costs of the building. Additionally, one of it’s goals is to bring more people to the Susan B. Anthony district and to the block that the building sits on. It’s no secret that the West Main section of downtown is a region that continues to be overlooked for economic and business development. My goal in conjunction with Prosper is to change this sobering fact. We need more community members and leaders to reach out and support small business and non-for-profits in this community. The health of our city depends on organizations like Prosper.
