- India has officially banned 43 additional Chinese apps.
- Popular ecommerce website AliExpress is now part of the list.
- The app will likely be removed from the Google Play Store.
After banning popular apps like TikTok and PUBG earlier this year, India has now banned 43 other Chinese apps, citing security concerns.
Referring to Section 69A of the Information Technology Act, the Department of Electronics and Information Technology order alleges that the apps are "engaging in activities that harm the sovereignty and integrity of India, the defense of India, the security of the state and public order. "
Among the latest apps to be blocked is the popular ecommerce website AliExpress. The app is popular with drop shippers, retailers and anyone looking to buy components. The app's ban effectively verifies the import of goods from China to India.
Another popular app to be blocked is Lalamove. The logistics app has grown in popularity as a hyper-local, same-day delivery service. The service operates a large fleet in India and it remains to be seen what effect the ban will have on the company's offline operations.
The apps are added to a list of 41 other apps, which include social media and dating applications, as well as utilities like CamCard.
India banned 59 apps in June and a further 118 apps in September after border skirmishes with China. Here is the full list of Chinese apps banned by the Government of India.
