For Alan Ball, life after True Blood has officially begun. Earlier this year, Ball announced that season 5 of his HBO vampire drama will be his last as the day-to-day show runner (he will take on a supervisory role in season 6). But, it doesn’t necessarily mean he’s stepping away from TV. Ball is stretching his creative legs elsewhere with his new CINEMAX action series, Banshee, which has begun production in and around Charlotte, North Carolina. The show stars Antony Starr as Lucas Hood, an ex-con and master thief who assumes the identity of the sheriff of “Banshee”, Pa., where he continues his criminal activities, even as he’s hunted by the shadowy gangsters he betrayed years earlier.
The series is executive produced by Ball, Greg Yaitanes (House, Lost), Peter Macdissi (Towelhead, Six Feet Under), Jonathan Tropper (author of the New York Times bestseller “This Is Where I Leave You“) and David Schickler (author of “Kissing in Manhattan” and “Sweet and Vicious“).
Banshee is scheduled for 10 hour-long episodes and will debut on Cinemax in 2013.
