Airtel Chairman Sunil Mittal Hints at Tariff Rate Hike Soon, Recharge Plans Are Going to Be More Expensive

Airtel Tariff Hike soon India

India’s second largest telecom operator Airtel may soon increase the recharge plan prices in the country. No, this claim is not ours, but Sunil Mittal, the chairman of the company, himself said this in an interview recently. However, the network provider did not confirm any specific time frame for the tariff hike. However, it is expected that Airtel may increase the recharge plan price in the second half of 2024.

In fact, Airtel’s target is to increase the average revenue per customer (ARPU) from Tk 208 to Tk 300. Let us know that the company is currently busy expanding its 5G services in India. For this, Airtel has already spent over Rs 40,000 on spectrum and other infrastructure upgrades It is believed that the telecom operator has decided to increase the tariff to return this money. Apart from this, the tariff rate may be increased to maintain their place in the competitive telecom industry of this country and to ensure huge profits.

One thing to note is that there has been no significant change in the current tariff rates of the Indian telecom sector since December 2021. In this regard, companies have made a new norm of tariff hike every 2-3 years since the launch of 4G in the country. It is believed that Airtel is thinking of increasing tariffs in 2024 following this rule.

Apart from Airtel, Jio and Vi may also increase tariffs

Currently, the three most popular telecom operators in the Indian telecom sector are – Reliance Jio, Airtel and Vodafone Idea or VI. Although ‘Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited’ or BSNL is the old name of this sector. However, it could not be included in this list due to not being able to provide better services in the market compared to its competitors.

Meanwhile, if Airtel decides to increase tariffs in the near future, it is expected that both JIO and VI companies will follow the same path. Because telecom operators did the same in November 2021. Whereas Airtel had hiked the tariff rates of its prepaid and postpaid plans by 20% in just a month, Jio and VI had taken a similar decision. As a result, it is not surprising if this incident happens again in 2024!

According to a recent report, Airtel and Reliance Jio will soon end their unlimited 5G trial offer in the country. After which both telecom operators may launch several dedicated 5G plans with prices 5-10% higher than their existing 4G plans. Above all, we have heard the news of increasing the price of existing 4G recharge packages. However, it is not possible to confirm whether this news is true or not.

But after Sunil Mittal’s recent comments, these reports seem to be true. The rest will be known in the future…
