Posted on the 01 November 2019 by Anees @ZulfiqarAAnees

Apple has finally launched the AirPods Pro, its new headphones with active noise cancellation and adjustable pads that try to keep the design of the originals even though they look slightly bigger.

The new AirPods Pro cost US $249, while the 2019 AirPods launched in the middle of the year with a wireless charging case cost US $199, and the first generation AirPods without that case have a current price of US $159. So which ones should you buy?

AirPods Pro vs. AirPods: Which one to buy?

What is special about the new AirPods Pro to make us pay US $249 for them? Well, here is the list of features that Apple has improved in the new headphones compared to the previous generation of 2019.

The AirPods Pro incorporates improvements such as:

  • The AirPods Pro incorporate pads of different sizes, so you can use the one that best suits your ears; Traditional AirPods only come in a universal size.
  • The AirPods Pro have active noise cancellation and also add a new transparency mode that allows people to listen while you are still with your music; Traditional AirPods do not have any of these functions.
  • The AirPods Pro have Adaptive EQ, which allows adaptive equalization of communication channels, which improves the interpretation of outside noise to incorporate it into noise cancellation.
  • The AirPods Pro has certified IPX4 water resistance, which means they will not be damaged by sweat or drops of water, but you should not practice water sports. Traditional AirPods have no certified water resistance.

Similarities between both

  • AirPods and AirPods Pro offer up to 24 hours of listening time thanks to the charging case.
  • All AirPods incorporate the H1 chip, which allows you to talk to Siri easily.
  • Air Pods Pro offers 4.5 hours of battery life on a single charge, but AirPods are slightly better at offering 5 hours, according to Apple data.

Conclusions

As always, the recommendation on which device to buy has to be viewed from different perspectives. So:

  • Buy the AirPods Pro if you spend a lot of time in noisy environments, you have a tendency to drop your hearing aids in areas where they can get wet and even if traditional hearing aids do not fit your ears, because they have pads for each size.
  • Buy the 2019 Air Pods if you don’t mind some outside noise when you listen to music, if you’ve never had a problem with the size of the headphones and if you have a wireless charger commonly used for different devices.
  • Buy the first-generation Air Pods if you like those of 2019, but you do not plan to use a wireless charger, and the charging by cable is enough for you; in the end, they do not necessarily load faster on this type of bases.

We still have to test the Air Pods Pro. If you are thinking of buying these new headphones, we recommend you check the Samsung Galaxy Buds, which offer a noise cancellation experience and its price of US $129 makes them much more attractive; the Powerbeats Pro are equally expensive than Air Pods Pro and have the same water resistance, although its design is more suitable for those who practice sport.
