Airframe Icing and 600 Lbs of Excess Weight Led to C208B Caravan Crash

Canada's Transportation Safety Board recently released its final report on a Cessna C208B Grand Caravan crash that happened on November 12, 2012 at Snow Lake, Manitoba. The report concludes that the crash was the result of the pilot's decision to depart with the aircraft 600lbs over its maximum allowable gross weight. The Caravan was also found to have ice on its leading edge wing and tail surfaces.

The crash killed the pilot and seriously injured the seven passengers on board. The 600lbs of excess weight and airframe ice increased the aircraft's stall speed and reduced its take off and climb performance.
