This Volaris A320 is getting cleaned up as it climbs out of Norman Y. Mineta San Jose International Airport. First flown in 2014, the A320neo (new engine option) started out as the A320 Enhanced (A320E) program with a series of efficiency improvements and a new aircraft cabin. Depending on engine, the it is 15% to 20% more fuel efficient than the A320ceo (current engine option) family. Nearly 28 years after the first A320, in January 2016, the A320neo entered service with Lufthansa, the type’s launch customer. This is one of 25 operated by Mexican low cost carrier Volaris. The Volaris logo, since its launch in 2005, has been a colorful, pixelated star against a black background. It represents the north star, Polaris, after which the airline’s name is derived from.
