An Austrian Airlines A320-200 taxies to its arrival gate at Frankfurt. Founded in 1923, Austrian Airlines is the flag carrier of Austria and a subsidiary of the Lufthansa Group. The red, white, and red colors mimic the colors of the Austrian flag. The livery also features the “Austrian Chevron”, created in 1960 echoing the shape of a flying bird. First flown in 1984, the Airbus A320 family pioneered the use of digital fly-by-wire flight control systems, as well as side-stick controls, in commercial aircraft. This is one of 29 A320-200s in the Austrian fleet. As of December 2023, over 11,200 Airbus A320-family aircraft have been delivered, and another 6,500 on order.
