An Air Canada Airbus A320-200 accelerates down SFO runway 10R for a northbound flight. This aircraft wears an updated livery introduced in February 2017 to coincide with Air Canada’s 80th anniversary and Canada’s 150th anniversary of Confederation. The livery marks returns to the maple leaf rondelle to the tail of the flag carrier’s fleet after an absence of 24 years. Air Canada operates 17 of these A320 aircraft, all are slated to be replaced by the Boeing 737 Max 8. First flown in 1984, the Airbus A320 family pioneered the use of digital fly-by-wire flight control systems, as well as side-stick controls, in commercial aircraft. As of November 2019, more than 9,100 Airbus A320-family aircraft have been delivered, with over 6,100 still on order.
