They have also altered the way in which, and the materials with which, modern homes are structured, empowering population explosions in hot weather cities like Las Vegas, Miami, Phoenix, and Houston.
Uses for Air Conditioning Systems
Air conditioning systems are used to maintain air temperature and humidity levels within a closed environment. They can also be called AC or cooling systems and they are grouped into size categories, depending upon whether they are:
- Window air conditioners
- Central air conditioners
- Huge air conditioning plants used by large business and apartment buildings.
Air conditioning systems are also used to control comfort levels in cars, trucks, boats, and planes. They also assure the regulated environment required during certain industrial processes.
How Air Conditioning Systems Work
All air conditioning systems burn fuel and work on the premise that heat always moves from a warm place to a cooler one. Regardless of their size, an air conditioning system works much like a refrigerator without insulation.
They evaporate nonflammable fluorocarbons, like Freon, in order to provide cooling. A compressor condenses cool Freon gas, forcing it to become hot Freon gas under high pressure. This hot gas then runs through a set of coils causing it to radiate heat and condense into a liquid form. The Freon liquid then moves through an expansion valve that turns it into cold Freon gas under low pressure. This cold gas is run through another set of coils to absorb heat and cool the air contained within a building or home.
Type of Air Conditioning Systems
Small window air conditioners are a great way to cool down small spaces, and they accomplish this by using the same processes employed by larger units. Home air conditioning systems are usually the size of a large trash can. Apartment buildings may use several condensing units. Large warehouses and malls may use up to 10 to 20 condensing units which are frequently placed out of site on rooftops. Huge industrial level air conditioning systems, often the size of a large room, are used by hospitals, universities, and office complexes.
