A newly merged entity AICTE (All India Council for Technical Education) and UGC is looking for higher education standards. According to the sources, Money control will have no single regulator. NHERA (National Higher Education Regulator Authority) of the higher education sector said there will be special bodies to look the quality of maintenance of institutions.
Once both the AICTE and UGC gets merged HEGC and PSSBs will set up. HEGC and PSSBs stand for Higher Education Grant Council and Professional Standard-Setting Bodies respectively.
PSSB is all responsible for holding and maintaining standards of higher education in the country. Therefore, it will include regular checks at institutes just to ensure that all facilities and infrastructure is up to mark.
At present, UGC maintains standards in university education whereas AICTE is and accreditation body. This is a body for engineering, management, hospitality, and other institutes. Hence, there are no inspections by them, due to this there are quality concerns. This is the reason why the officials are thinking to merge these two AICTE and UGC. After the merging of them, PSSB and HEGC will be formed. Therefore, these two bodies will be a regional chapter looking at different streams of education.
