The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), the national level apex advisory body for technical education in India, has again revised the new session’s academic calendar. According to the latest reports, AICTE has postponed the commencement of the new academic session from 1 November 2020 to 1 December 2020. The revision was made, keeping in mind the recent spike in the COVID-19 cases.

State’s Request to AICTE to Postpone the Session

According to AICTE, “Due to prolonged emergent conditions in the country, requests from various state governments and ongoing admission process of llTs and NITs, the Council has extended the last date of admission for first-year engineering courses (UG and Diploma lateral entry) to 30 November 2020. Accordingly, the new date of commencement of classes of first-year is 1 December 2020.”

Previously Revised Dates

Earlier this month, the University Grants Commission or UGC released an official notification which mentioned that new academic session for the UG and PG courses must begin on 1 November 2020, completing the admission cycle latest by 30 October 2020.

Following which, AICTE released a circular notice ruling out that all affiliated engineering and technical education institutions must complete the admission procedure by 1 November 2020 and commence the new academic session immediately after that.

But considering the current situation, as everything from registration to exams to counseling is happening online, candidates face significant issues and confusion as to what procedure to follow. Many of them cannot upload the documents due to poor connectivity; while, others are facing power cuts.

Hence, deadlines are being extended, or the seats are being allotted to the next candidate in line. Anyhow, the admission cycle is underway and is expected to be completed within the newly set deadline.
