Against The Storm Tips – This guide will help new Against the Storm players who are looking for some useful tips while getting started to have a better experience.

Against The Storm Tips

Before the first storm arrives, upgrade your hub into an encampment

The three seasons of AtS cycles are Drizzle, Clearance, and Storm. The “looming darkness” negative effect, which increases animosity levels globally by -4 + -4 during storm season, will always remain active. that simply means:

  • Hostility 0, you have -4 resolve penalty
  • At hostility 1, you have -10 resolve penalty
  • Hostility 2, you have -16 resolve penalty

Beavers have base resolve at age 15, harpies at age 10, and lizards at age 5. You will start losing harpies and lizards in the storm at hostility one.

Your hub will become an encampment when you have 3 shelters and 4 comfort decorations, giving you global +2 With a little wood and some hard work from the builder, you can safeguard the majority of your villagers in the early stages thanks to the +3 resolve benefit for shelter.

Unassign woodcutters durning the storm

Woodcutters significantly increases your level of hostility, which is the main cause of your suffering. If you don’t have a solid infrastructure to support resolution, you’ll probably be at 2/3 by year 13.

Simply reassigning them to different tasks and maintaining a low level of antagonism will help you lessen hostility. To obtain more wood during the safe seasons, you can construct additional woodcutter’s camps (it only costs 2 parts, which is the lowest among camps).

Keep your camp and workers near storage areas and resource nodes to reduce travel time

Some base building games are more like spreadsheet games where you can move your workers anywhere in the world as soon as you give them a job. This is not the case in AtS. Walking takes up valuable time that could be spent doing something more productive. All of your walkers’ walking time should be kept to a minimum. The camp of a gatherer (such as a woodcutter, stonecutter, or scavenger) can be moved instantly and without charge, and the location of the camp can always be changed. It matters how the camp is facing. Some base building games are more like spreadsheet games where you can move your workers anywhere in the world as soon as you give them a job. You want the building to be as close to the storage as possible for industry workers. To cut down on their work time, I advise placing them close to your main storage line.

As a general rule, you ought to construct a storage if the distance is greater than a screen. In this game, deleting structures offers you a complete refund unless you are under the “corrosive torrent” modifier, so use those storages sparingly.

Villagers rarely ever “use” the shelters or houses

Villagers don’t enter their homes to rest or perform other activities; instead, as long as a shelter is close by, they are content and never enter their homes at all. Put them in an inconspicuous location and call it a day.

Farming are great, but beware of the caveats

The only truly “renewable” resources in the game are farms. Other than Sparkdew (tho application for Sparkdew is very limited). You only need one man-hour, and theoretically you can use an endless number of corps.

Farmers are only able to plant during Drizzle and harvest during Clearance. Any crops that are still growing or being harvested when the storm hits will be lost immediately. Depending on how close your farm is to the hearth and storage, without improvements. Typical 10 tile+ farm fields cannot be fully utilized by a single farm with only 2 slots. To take care of those plots, you will need two farm buildings.

Farmer will “plow” the field during storm season to provide that tile 10% change for double the produce. if you believe that the workforce would be better spent elsewhere. During the storm, you should transfer them somewhere else.

What is Against The Storm?

Against the Storm is a city-building game with roguelite mechanics set in a dynamic fantasy world suffering the torment of permanent rain. You are the Queen’s Adelantado, a colonizer sent to wild lands with the mission of erecting and managing new settlements inhabited by humans, beavers, lizards and harpies. Each city you build will be different, and the challenges assigned to you by the Queen will be unique.

Your objective will be to survive long enough to obtain the valuable resources needed to rebuild and improve the Burning City. However, the Tempest always returns. Can you meet the Queen’s demands before the rain destroys your city and the cycle starts all over again? Do you have what it takes to weather the storm?
