The Attorney General informed the Colombo District Court yesterday that the government has made arrangements to pay compensation for the loss of life and damage to property caused by the 2019 Easter Sunday attacks.
The Attorney General stated that compensation will be paid according to the Cabinet Memorandum submitted on April 22, 2019 by the current President, Ranil Wickremesinghe as the Minister for Resettlement Rehabilitation Northern Province Development and Youth Affairs at that time.
The Attorney General mentioned that the Cabinet Memorandum has recommended that one million rupees be paid for the immediate relatives of a dead person, the same amount for a permanently disabled person, Rs. 500,000 for an injured person and a maximum of Rs. 5 million for the compensation of property damage.
