Afternoon Tea at Home

French Oven Grainger Market Afternoon Tea BoxAfternoon Tea is a lovely treat, whether you make a day of it and go for a spa trip, or you just pop somewhere nearby. But what if I told you, you could have afternoon tea at home* and it's really quite easy...French Oven Grainger Market Afternoon Tea Box SandwichesFrench Oven Grainger Market Afternoon Tea Box Cake SelectionFrench Oven Grainger Market Afternoon Tea Box*I should state right about now that this will only apply if you're in the North East - as I was generously given the afternoon tea box from The French Oven in Grainger Market, Newcastle. Whilst I can assume there'll be other bakeries and cafés offering a similar takeaway box, I can't guarantee that.
Anyway, now that's out the way, shall we have a look at what you get in the box? From those triangle sandwiches (chicken salad or cheese in this case) to sausage rolls, which I think are a perfectly acceptable part of Afternoon Tea - perhaps because I'm from the North East and I fully appreciate a sausage roll, or indeed, pork pie, whenever offered! Then we're into the cakes and scones. With a selection of scones, carrot cake, sponge and some mini brownies, The French Oven have really covered all angles. Though I'm sure if you have any dietary requirements they'd be more than happy to cater for you - or pop in all chocolate cake if you're not a carrot cake fan, perhaps!

This particular box, among a few others, was designed as a Mother's Day gift but with Easter approaching, I'm sure you'll be able to pick up something similar, or even put together your own box. You could have 10 traditional cream cakes for £10, think peach melbas (my favourite) cream horns, chocolate eclairs.. British Afternoon Tea for 2 for £12 (this is the one I've featured here today) or Luxury French Afternoon Tea for £16 - that's swapping the sausage rolls for mini quiches and the cake selection is a little different too.

Thanks to The French Oven for this lovely British Afternoon Tea box - those scones are delicious and I'm sure to be popping back soon to try more sweet treats!
