Afraid (2024)- Hey Siri, Tell Alexa There’s Nothing Remotely Scary Here
Quick Take: I refuse. They tried to follow the AI horror title M3gan, with their own obnoxious title, Afr1d, which is just totally unnecessary. The whole film is unnecessary. this film isn’t scary, there are no consequences, and it is fundamentally everything wrong with cheap horror. John Cho, who seems to get sucked into shitty horror movies rather easily, is the father of this family that gets a special advanced AI, but things start happening, and the AI starts manipulating the children. It is a bafflingly useless movie, which starts with a semi-promising opening sequence, but by the end of the film, nothing means anything. This is a spoiler, but I’m actually pretty sure this is a horror movie where no one actually even dies. I’m pretty sure. I’m in the middle of watching the second season of Goosebumps, a Disney Plus series, and that has more horror, and is far scarier than this. I’d let little kids watch this. The small crime is being poorly designed, but the far greater insult is this being billed as “scary”. For more, check out my video. And if you’re thinking about watching this, yes, it has audio description, but the quality of it should remain a mystery as everyone has to have better things to do in their day than watch this.
