Seen at the Museo del Aire in Madrid is this Aerospatiale SA-319B Alouette III that was used by the Direccion General de Trafico DGT (Traffic Police Directorate ). First flown in 1959, the Alouette III was widely used and popular with operators, with over 2,000 rotorcraft being constructed from 1961-1985. This design evolved from the successful Alouette II, with a requirement of accommodating seven seats or a pair of stretchers. The type is best known for its impressive high-altitude performance. In June 1960 an Alouette III demonstrated that it could operate at 15,700 ft on Mont Blanc, Europe’s highest mountain.
