Aero Union (Lockheed) P-3A Orion @ McClellan Airfield, Sacramento, CA

March 2016

I teamed up with Rob Edgcumbe to provide media coverage of the 2016 Aerial Firefighting International conference. The highlight of the event were the aerial demonstrations session which included a variety of static display aircraft like this Lockheed P-3.  In the late 80’s, Aero Union received over a dozen surplus P-3’s as part of an deal to modernize the Forest Service firefighting capability.  In July 2011 the U.S. Forest Service announced that it had canceled its contract with Aero Union after the planes failed their required safety inspections.  A new company, MAFFS LLC, owns the six remaining P3’s that were formerly operated by Aero Union and were in flyable storage here at McClellan.  Nikon D300 w/18-200mm, processed with Aperture.
