I began this abstract painting by placing spots of colors in an overall pattern across the canvas. But randomly placed spots of acrylic paint would be boring without a focus and path(s) for the eye to follow. As I continued to work on this canvas, I created a central focus with concentrated densities of color and line.
I wanted to keep the airy lightness I began with, and the mosaic-like overall feel, while at the same time creating stronger paths of interest. I did this with lines of burnt umber, vivid red-orange, titanium white, cadmium yellow light, and parchment.
Canvas #116, 36" x 36" acrylic on canvas.
