Stephen Amell announced on Wednesday that his hit show, Arrow, will be coming to an end during the mid-season crossover in the Fall and his fellow actors have all begun to say their good-byes.
Fans and actors alike have all decided to come on social media over the last few days to chime in on their thoughts and feelings about the beloved cult hit ending after seven and a half seasons. The latest to be heard were Grant Gustin, who plays Barry Allen on The Flash, another Arrowverse show, and Emily Bett Rickards, who plays Felicity Smoak, wife to The Green Arrow/Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell).
Grant Gustin wrote on Instagram,
“It kinda just hit me this morning that Arrow will be leaving us next year. Ever since I started doing this, it’s always been “Flash & Arrow” (or really this should of said “Arrow & Flash” on it’s cover… right, Stephen?) We don’t get to see a lot of each other, because we both work very similar schedules, on different shows, for 9 ½ months out of the year. But when we’re brought together for those grueling crossover episodes, it always results in something pretty special. And not JUST a special kind of hell. It’s just absolutely bananas to stand around with that many people in super suits, and get paid to play make believe on tv. It’s something that wouldn’t happen year after year if it weren’t for the groundwork that Arrow, Stephen and the whole cast and crew laid for us. Not just that, but Stephen has always brought a different kind of passion to his show and the whole Arrowverse. It’s always been clear to me how much it means to Stephen to have the privilege of getting to go on this journey as Oliver Queen. And how much care he’s always put towards it. I will never forget ohh soo many memories we shared together during our hundreds, if not thousands of hours of crossover filming. Thank you to everyone who was a part of making Arrow for letting me come on this journey with you all. Congratulations on a badass show that will live on forever. I’ll never forget binge watching season one and being scared shitless my first day on set, seeing you all in person. Stephen, you’re a legend. Maybe this means we can hang out more?”
Emily Bett Rickards, also took to Instagram for her response, said,
“I’ve been trying to find the words to simply say what the last seven years have meant to me, and I believe this photo sums it up! It’s a cuddle puddle. Everyone here is exhausted and smiling. Everyone here looks at home. The incredible mind of my friend @schwartzapproved will be taking Arrow into its 8th & final season sending it off with pride, power and love. Without this show I would have not met the inspiring people pictured here nor those I have gotten to work with and get to work with everyday. People who have become my family. I’m excited to see what is in store for the story we have been telling. I’m excited and nervous. A combination of emotions Felicity Smoak vibrates at frequently. Needless to say without the last seven years I wouldn’t have met her… Thank you to all of you for your massive support, passion and accompanying us on this journey. It’s because of you we found each other.”
If her last words ring bells in your head, it is because it is a largely repeated mantra of the Olicity fandom. Because in Episode 4.06, it was a line that Felicity said to Oliver as they reconciled after a fight. And it is with those words that Emily Bett Rickards that she spoke to all the fans hearts.
Others spoke up as well. People like Madison McLaughlin, who played Evelyn Sharp, who said on Twitter as a response to Stephen’s first post before he took to a Facebook live video to fully share the news.
“forever thankful for my time as evelyn learning from oliver, but also for my time learning from Stephen. Thanks for teaching me cool ways to carry a bow. And for giving me my first tequila. But especially for having my back in a situation where I didn’t have much power, but you did… Congrats @stephenamell on an incredible run. Here’s to what’s next. Excited to see where the journey takes you.”
And Colton Haynes, who plays Roy Harper, also took to Twitter to share his news,
“Sad to say that #Arrow will be coming to an end after a 10 episode Season 8. Thank you to all the fans who’ve watched. It’s been such a blessing to be a part of this incredible journey.”
Even the writers had something to say on Twitter,
“Everyone has to hand up the mask at some point. Fear not! We don’t’ have to say goodbye just yet. We still have eight S7 episodes and our final season of #Arrow to conclude our story. Thank you all, the best fans, for letting us grace your screens for the past several years.”
And the other major showrunner, David Ramsey tweeted,
“What an awesome ride! @arrow fans have been the best any actor could’ve asked for! Thank you for helping me bring John Diggle/Spartan to life!!! Love all of you! Can’t wait for you to see what we have in stock for you. Let’s end on a high, shall we? #Arrow”
But, don’t think fans have been silent. Everywhere you can find some response to the fact that Arrow only has about 18 episodes left before it concludes. One of the best that I found was from Lord Mesa, who is probably one of the biggest and most well-known Arrow fan of all, and someone we at Entertainment Jolt had the honor of interviewing.
“Hey folks! I did the deep dive into my IG and found one of the first Arrow illos I ever posted, so I thought I’d revisit that piece with a new version, all the while reflecting on the 8 seasons of a show that has had a great impact on my life. So big news yesterday… to be honest, I had to take a little time to process it. When Arrow first began, I watched the first episode because the clips of Stephen doing the salmon ladder intrigued me. I mean the actor himself, not a stunt double was doing that?!? I don’t think I had ever seen that in a TV show before. Afterwards, I stopped watching. Not because the show was bad, more so because Smallville had just ended and I was not ready to jump into another DC hero show. It wasn’t until Season 2 and the appearance of Caity Lotz/Canary that I was enticed to come back… and then they did it, the mentioned the League of Assassins… the mother effin League… of… Assassins!!! Then I realized the show runners were not playing around and we’re going deep into DC mythology. And just like that I was back in. My interaction between the Arrow family, the cast, the production, the writers, and especially the fandom has been life changing. I am so thankful for all the interactions I was privileged to have made with everyone who is as much of a fan of the show as I am. I hope only the best for all the stars and their future endeavors and I will always be a fan with whatever they do next. For all those who have followed my Arrow illos, I hope to continue telling the stories of Team Arrow after the show ends, but let’s not get ahead of ourselves, let’s ride this rollercoaster together until the very end and see where Stephen and the crew take us. I can’t think of a better fan-ily to experience it with.”
