Actor Profile: Viola Davis

Posted on the 12 August 2015 by Sirmac2 @macthemovieguy

I’m going to admit that Viola Davis flew under the radar for years. I probably first saw her in Traffic in 2000, but I don’t think I noticed her until Far From Heaven in 2002. She put in a lot of work in bit parts before breaking through in Doubt in 2008 and earning her first Oscar nomination. Now, she’s a big deal, and her TV show is one of the best things ABC has going for it.

BEST PERFORMANCE:
I’m going to have to play it safe, because I loved her in The Help. A well deserved Oscar nomination, and one she probably should have won. Her best work might also be on How To Get Away With Murder, as she never ceases to amaze me. Lets hope the second season holds up.

MOST ICONIC ROLE
She’s probably best known either for The Help or How To Get Away With Murder.

MOST UNDERRATED PERFORMANCE
Prisoners was a great film, and underrated for everyone involved. I’d also nominate Get On Up, because her little role in that was fantastic as well.

BEST PERFORMANCE I’VE HEARD WAS GOOD AND HAVEN’T SEEN
I’m not sure, because I’ve seen most of her “major” performances. I suppose I’ll go with her stint on Law and Order: SVU, a show I should probably watch more and haven’t. I’m fairly certain I haven’t seen her arc on that show.

WORST PERFORMANCE/FILM
Get Rich Or Die Tryin wins (or is it loses?) this. Even if I don’t remember her in that, it was an awful film. Good idea, but they should have cast an actual actor instead of let 50 Cent play himself.

Roles/Films I’ve Seen:
1) Out Of Sight (1998)
2) Traffic (2000)
3) Kate and Leopold (2001)
4) Far From Heaven (2002)
5) Antwone Fisher (2002)

12) Law Abiding Citizen (2009)

14) Eat Pray Love (2010)
15) It’s Kind of a Funny Story (2010)
16) Trust (2011)
17) The Help (2011)
18) Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close (2011)
19) Won’t Back Down (2012)
