Actor Profile: Albert Brooks

Posted on the 22 July 2015 by Sirmac2 @macthemovieguy

My second actor profile this week belongs to Albert Brooks, who is a really underappreciated actor in Hollywood. Seriously. He’s done more than enough to warrant being an Oscar nominee, yet he isn’t.

BEST PERFORMANCE
He missed out on an Oscar nomination for Drive, and he probably shouldn’t have. It’s rare that we get to see this intense, dark, villain side of Albert Brooks, and he went there for Drive. If you prefer a lighter Albert Brooks, he was also fantastic in Broadcast News.

MOST ICONIC PERFORMANCE
He’s the voice of Marlin in Finding Nemo. Nothing else on his resume really even comes close to that.

MOST UNDERRATED PERFORMANCE
You probably haven’t seen My First Mister, a little indie film he did with Leelee Sobeski. He’s fantastic in it. I also thought he was great in This Is 40, even though most people don’t see that as “his” movie.

BEST PERFORMANCE THAT I’VE HEARD WAS GREAT AND HAVEN’T SEEN
I haven’t seen Lost In America. It seems to be the most liked of the films on his list that I haven’t seen.

WORST PERFORMANCE
I actually haven’t seen any films of his I didn’t like. I even liked The In Laws, but I’ll peg that. Sometimes Worst doesn’t mean bad. It’s like when you get a report card, and you got 5 A’s and one B. That B was your worst grade, but it’s still a B.
