Whimsical, budget accommodation
The “Palace of the Hut” is located in the Neukölln district which appears to be up and coming since the demise of Tempelhof airport.
Located in an old vacuum cleaner factory and in a street full of cafés, low key bars and some interesting looking shops.
The check-in was fun and pain free with Silke answering any questions before they arose. We checked out some of the other caravans and had a good nosey about before settling into the Alten Palast, our home for the night. The Alten Palast is the remains of the wooden panelled front room of the factory with some new decor added by French Artist Marion Andrieu. There are four beds, each single. Two on the roof and two inside the room.
Alten Palast upper sleeping area
The showers and toilets were modern and clean, the only downside being the lack of privacy for changing – I’m not big on communal dressing areas.
The sleeping areas encircle a beautifully decorated and lit up tree. With little night lights outside each house glowing all night.
Courtyard
Courtyard
Each house has its own seating area and table for relaxing. There is also a courtyard outside for al fresco dinning, chatting or surfing the web
The beds were comfortable and the sleep peaceful.
Unfortunately for sleeping, Berlin was having a heatwave which also lacked some wind to keep cool. All the external windows were open but alas no wind so we didn’t sleep too well – thanks weather system!
Free tea/coffee as well as an apple and croissant were available for breakfast. Just enough to tide us over until we found somewhere to lounge over something bigger.

We were sad to leave. It’s quirky, differnt and with free WIFI, showers and friendly staff. An excellent place to stay all round!
