By Glasgow Skinner/ My Life On And Off The Guest List @guestlistblog
This season, the Academy of Art University Fall 2013 show, once again held at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at Lincoln Center, included seven collections from ten designers: Janine M. Villa, Amanda Nervig, Yuming Wang, Teresa Field, James Thai, Leah Aripotch, Heather Marie Scholl, Chenxi Li, Heather McDonald, and Qian Xie.

The opening collection and collaboration between Janine M. Villa and Amanda Nervig (knitwear) consisted of classic silhouettes in wild patterns that somehow went together very well.

A huge contrast was next with Yuming Xie's stark, sophisticated minimalist looks, all done in wool and cool-toned neutrals.

Teresa Field (clothing), James Thai (leather-work), and Leah Aripotch (jewelry) showed seven stunning looks featuring clean lines and bold jewelry. The leather pieces in particular were beautiful and unique in their stunning silhouettes and intricate decorative embellishments.

Immediately following was Heather Marie Scholl's collection, made up of riotous colors, patterns, and a quirky, irreverent feel.
Chenxi Li

Luxe furs, ladylike details, and shades of blue and green were shown by Chenxi Li.

A futuristic feel with exaggerated, structured shapes made in wool was the theme for Heather McDonald, who was inspired by the relationship between humans and technology.
Qian Xie

Last, Qian Xie did some very interesting things with hair-calf and fur. The grey hair-calf coats with woven details particularly caught my eye.
Overall, the collections were very good and the designers very talented. I'm interested to follow their careers over the next few years.
