Abstract Art: Drawing Vs. Painting

By Abstractartbylt @artbylt

In my last blog I showed how I had used one of my paintings to influence the way I made an abstract drawing.  In this blog, I'll show how I attempt to use a drawing technique in a painting.  I made a couple abstract drawings recently which used repeating patterns on a grid structure.  Here's one of them:

To make a painting in a similar style, I first covered the whole canvas in a light blue and let it dry.  Then I drew criss-crossing lines in Prussian blue and featured them with a brush.  I painted in a few of the squares with a light yellow and light blue.  I painted some circle shapes in light and dark blue.  I drew a couple more bisecting lines.

This grid will be the background on which I construct my painting of repeating patterns.
