So far as we know for certain, Earth's only natural satellite, is the moon and its a cold, dry orb whose surface is studded with craters and strewn with rocks and dust.

Year in year out, the moon never seems to change. Craters and other formations appear to be permanent now, but the moon didn't always look like this.
Kind of like an imaginary planetary firework display, NASA's Goddard Multimedia team, has created an absorbing video animation of the last 4.5 billion years geological history of the moon, courtesy of NASA's Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter.
