Supernaturals Now
Book 2

Ivory hates life. She was entombed in magic for hundreds of years, enduring isolation and hopelessness thanks to her mother. When she emerges, she finds herself on the verge of insanity. The world has changed and all she knows is what she's heard or seen while people thought her to be only a statue.

Only one person remains with her through it all, the gargoyle, Lincoln. Raised for the last years of her life as a human woman by her mother, a dryad, Ivory has come to believe that she is special, unique, and important. More importantly, the entire time that she was a statue, she had believed that Lincoln loved her and was devoted to her.

When he doesn't declare his love, and seems distant, Ivory shuts down.
If Lincoln can't help her to see that what makes her special is her heart, not her beauty, she will become the vessel of annihilation for all the races of Earth. If she realizes that love is more than servitude, she will become one of the greatest gifts in the fight against the encroaching evil.

MY REVIEW OF A WOLF'S SONG BY SHANNON PHOENIX
A Wolf's Song by Shannon Phoenix is a 2012 publication. Cover art by Steena Holmes. This e book is available at Smashwords.com and Amazon.com. I received a copy of this book from the author and Bewitching Tours/Roxanne Rhoads in exchange for an honest review.
Hamish is a satellite werewolf, resigned to living a solitary life while waiting for his wife to reincarnate. But, after 400 years, it looks as though she has not found a way back to him.
Enter, Desiree, a woman with mind reading ablilites. Desiree has left her job in law enforcement because of she can no longer stand all the voices in her head.
When she is saved from an attack by a wolf, she cages him and takes care of him, not knowing he is a man that has shifted into his beastly form.
Desiree soon learns Hamish's secret, but it doesn't frighten her. In fact, this new world is one she seems to have strangely adjusted to rather rapidly.
Desiree doesn't try to hide her attraction to Hamish and it looks like the two of them might be abl e to make a relationship work. Hamish, however makes an error in judgment that causes Desiree to back away from him.
Before they can set things right, a situation arises that may take Hamish away from Desiree for good.
It has been a long while since a I read a werewolf paranormal romance. It looks like I made a good choice with this one. I LOVED Hamish! He is an alpha male all the way. I was melting all the way through the book, except of course when he made a few mistakes. You know he redeems himself though.
I also really liked Desiree. She was as fair as she could be under the circumstances and didn't pass judgment on the vampires or ghouls until she knew all the facts. Taking her time and learning all she could before making a choice will be what saves everyone from a terrible plot of revenge.
The climate of Colordo was perfect for the werewolf story. It was just easy to picture all of this a chilled climate.
The chemistry between Hamish and Desiree fit together perfectly! This is a really special love story for these two.
This book is the first in a series and I am looking forward to touching base with these characters again.
Overall this one is an A+

MY INTERVIEW WITH SHANNON PHOENIX
Shannon Phoenix Interview
Wolf’s Song is the first book in a new series. (The Supernaturals series) This book has an interesting spin on the werewolf love story. How to do you keep your ideas fresh? Where do you get your inspiration?
You know, I'm one of those strange authors who says that "the characters just come alive in my mind and do their own thing." Now, intellectually, I do understand that it's my own subconscious, or maybe even somewhat my consciousness guiding these images... but the truth is that I watch their lives play out in my mind, and write what I see. The inspiration comes straight from the characters, and it's rare that I do much to try to change their direction.
Hamish came to "visit" me one night in my sleep. I woke up with this nagging sense of something unfinished. Something huge and important. I had a mental image of Hamish running from the deathwalkers... a dark, snowy night... a beautiful wolf... a ravening beast chasing it... and the wolf's instinct to hunt and kill being overwritten by the sleeping mind of the man and his instinct to protect.
The story was so clear, and it just unfolded in the most natural, amazing way. Everything seemed to rise from that one image of the wolf and the deathwalkers. It was almost like Hamish was an old friend come to call and as if I knew him and had always known him.
What is a satellite werewolf exactly?

Satellite werewolves are those who have not chosen the path of darkness... but they also are not in a pack. Werewolves are pack creatures. Whether man or beast, their instinct is to be nearby others of their own kind. They live in the fringes of their chosen pack. They don't get involved in pack politics. They don't interfere. They run with the pack, but only indirectly, never going in for the kills with the pack.
A satellite werewolf may be a werewolf too powerful to rest easy under the pack leader, a werewolf too weak to be safe in the pack, or a werewolf who simply doesn't feel the strong need for pack life that others experience.
These werewolves are nearly always bachelors. Any werewolf with a family will bring them into a pack, because not doing so would leave the family vulnerable during full moon times. There may be rare exceptions, but it is extremely risky. Many deaths have been the result of the werewolves (who are exclusively male) leaving family either unprotected on full moons, or insufficiently protected.
Hamish is haunted by his past, his lost hope, and the inevitability of the decline of his species. He knows he could take over from his father, but the bond to what family remains to him is too strong for him to drive his father off... thus he remains a satellite 'were. Never completely a part of the pack... never completely apart from the pack.
Do you enjoy reading genres other than paranormal/urban fantasy? If so, what do you like to read?
I love high Fantasy. I like a bit of Sci Fi, too. That's mostly it; I'm an avid reader, but those are really the only genres that call to me strongly.
Where can readers contact you? Where can we find your books?
My website is here: http://shannonphoenix.com/
I do have a Contact Me form there, and I love to hear from readers! http://shannonphoenix.com/contact_me.html
Of course, you can find my books on my website, although another excellent resource is Goodreads: https://www.goodreads.com/author/show/5829040.Shannon_Phoenix
Make sure to contact me if you write a review anywhere and tell me. I have a short e-book/ novella that's free to anyone who posts a review and sends me the link through my contact-me form! It's the story of the very lovely Paige and her extremely powerful lover, Stavros. Stavros is one of the most powerful vampires alive, but it takes him a lot of work to win Paige over. There story is touched on in other places, but only in The Minister's Paige do you get the fuller scoop and the more personal details.
What are you working on now?
Oh, goodness. Well, this will be an extremely hard one for me to keep short. The second book in the series is in its editing phase. So far, it's 140 thousand words, and the climax must be revised--a likely addition of another 10-20 thousand words!
I am both very excited about A Gargoyle's Might and very nervous about it. Unlike the first book, this one didn't flow well. I fought the characters tooth, claw, and nail. I didn't like Ivory (the leading lady) very much through most of the novel. She's not even an anti-hero, she's just a skunk... or so it seems. Lincoln, her leading man, seemed to be a little demented for putting up with her, too. And others behaved so badly in the book, I thought... everyone just stinks!
Yet as the book went on, I found all of them evolving and everything changed. The book pushes the envelope of my comfort zone in ways that I don't know how to even express. And the turn-around in some of the characters is stark enough to make me fear the reaction of readers.
Others are so morally gray that it's hard to know what to think of them. Tallis, who is the leading man of the third book, is so morally ambiguous (or, more honestly, dark-sided) that I wonder how I'll ever make him sympathetic to readers. He's brutal and ruthless in this book. He's the antagonist in many stories yet to come, and with good reason. A Gargoyle's Might is a complex and sometimes dark book, with layers and nuances. My stomach is in knots just thinking about how it will all go over!
Additionally, another group of interconnected books is in the works, as well. The first book in this (unrelated) grouping is currently called The Risen God. The Celtic God of Death has been sleeping under a spell, unable to usher the souls of the dead into rest between reincarnations... thus the increasing spread of evil across the world. But now he has been unleashed, and dark forces work to prevent him from taking up his mantle again. This story group, in its own way, is just as unique and unexpected as the Supernaturals Now have been, if I dare to say it, myself. I'm looking forward to these.
What makes a hero attractive to a woman, in your opinion?
While I must say that it's apparently different for all of us, I believe that one thing that we love about book heroes is that they have fidelity. I believe that for many women, emotional fidelity is one of the greatest of our expectations from the man that we finally open our hearts to.
In books, we can spend time in the presence of a hero who has fidelity and who chooses the heroine unequivocally. He manages to express himself in a way that speaks to that yearning inside of us all for emotional fidelity and certainty. We can open our heart like a flower to the man who, in the end, convinces us that he won't destroy it.
A woman's most fragile, precious, and infinite treasure is her heart. A man's fidelity to that is the final straw that can make or break his admittance into that holy sanctum.
Who is your favorite hero?
Well, I'm not sure if you're asking about from my own series, or if you're asking from only books, or if you're asking in general.
Ultimately, my number one "hero" of all time is Alistair from the game Dragon Age... although the "choice" at the end of the game is just heinous and twisted... but it cannot shake me from my Alistair fangirl-ism.
Through the game, as you woo him, eventually he becomes one of the most tender, devoted characters I've seen, and the fact that you can interact with him on demand and he is tender with you, is probably the reason why I played that game until the CD literally gave out.
Name your top five favorite authors.
It's very difficult to pick. There are so many wonderful ones. In part due to childhood influence, and in part due to adulthood influence:
Ann McCaffrey
Laurann Dohner
Jennifer Ashley
Mark Twain
Mary Shelley
Name your top five favorite books
Goodness. Tough questions. It's like taking a kid into a store full of toys and saying, "pick five! Your favorite five!" I love books so much! I love authors so much! I want to just hug them all and read them all... Ahem.
Blitz (the fire horse)
Romeo and Juliet
Living the Wisdom of The Tao
Pride Mates
Wrath
Do you have a favorite quote you would like share with us?
Definitely. This applies no matter what you want success in:

"Success is nothing more than a few simple disciplines, practiced every day; while failure is simply a few errors in judgment, repeated every day. It is the accumulative weight of our disciplines and our judgments that leads us to either fortune or failure."
- Jim Rohn

A WOLF'S SONG BY SHANNON PHOENIX

About the Author:

Shannon Phoenix always wrote stories. She watched the characters take on their lives within her mind, and began to write down what they were doing. She would write the stories and then let them go. But a few years ago, she got caught writing those stories. You know... those stories.

To her surprise, the person who found her stories loved her characters as much as Shannon did. She tentatively allowed others to read the stories, as well, and it was from that first foray into the scary world of letting others read her 'little tales' that Shannon Phoenix Books was born.

Shannon lives in New Hampshire with her husband, her daughter, and their family cat. Her full time job is parenting, her part time job is as a mother's helper to a family friend, and her passion is letting the characters in her mind out on paper--or keyboard, as the case may be.

Welcome to Shannon Phoenix's Books. May you find the magic in your own life.
