Yesterday Joe and I took a trip down to the Saint Paul Farmers’ Market. Unfortunately, no dogs are allowed so Stella had to stay behind. As soon as we arrived, I kept thinking to myself, “And why haven’t you been down here before?” It was awesome.
The market was packed (in a good way – it’s nice to see people shopping locally) and the vendors had truck loads of fresh veggies, beautiful bouquets of flowers, farm fresh eggs and meat and the list goes on.
I didn’t see as much fruit as I’ve seen at the Minneapolis Farmers’ Market on Thursdays downtown, not sure if we are past fruit season yet or what. I saw some people with raspberries, blueberries and apples but it was definitely the place to go if you wanted veggies and herbs! Oh and I saw one table with homemade maple syrup and honey…yum!
I could believe how inexpensive everything was too! I mean, for $1 I picked up a huge bunch of basil which would normally have cost me over $3 at the grocery store. Zucchini was $2 for about 7 of them, whereas at the grocery store, it would have cost me 99 cents a piece! Okay, I think you get it now. Farmers’ Market = Cheap fresh and healthy food!!
Don’t live near St. Paul? No worries! Here’s a list of all the farmers’ markets in Minnesota! I encourage you to check one out near you!
